Iris Schutten initiated, curated and organised several cultural programs presenting and discussing alternative realities in economics, public space, business and urban development. She co-curated Between Realities, the prizewinning Dutch contribution to Prague Quadrennial 2015 for Platform Scenografie Nederland, as well as Laboratorium voor de Tussentijd (Laboratory for the Interim) in The Hague, an interdisciplinary laboratory for urban transformation areas.

H-Lab, Architeconisch intervention and cultural program for Heesterveld, Amsterdam ZO 2012
Op een concrete en hands-on manier wordt onderzocht hoe de tussentijd kan worden benut voor nieuwe vormen van stedelijke ontwikkeling. Twee woningen worden verbouwd tot een modelwoning die een levensgrote groei-maquette van het bouwblok bevat. De woning biedt tegelijkertijd ruimte aan expertmeetings, lezingen en debatten. Het project onderzoekt daarmee niet alleen nieuwe processen van ontwikkelen, bouwen, beheren en exploiteren maar legt ook een relatie tussen de plaatselijke hiphop-cultuur en stedelijke ontwikkeling.

Op zoek naar recepten voor het pauzelandschap, met opgeklopte (her)bestemmingen, losgeklopte architectuur en voorgekookt beleid in vele smaken. Pauzelust is een ontdekkingsreis annex diner voor stadsliefhebbers, lokale stakeholders, tijdelijke gebruikers en het kennisplatform Tussentijd in Ontwikkeling. Kunnen we voedsel verbouwen in leegstaande kantoren, gebouwen bottum-up ontwikkelen en kwijnende winkelstraten redden van de ondergang?

The Laboratory for the Interim researched and developed alternative concepts for urban transformation areas by a multidisciplinary team. The laboratory consisted of a series of workshops, studies, lectures and debates that took place from June 2007 to October 2009 in connection with Hotel Transvaal The Hague. The Laboratory was completed with the studyday: Urban Transformation in the Interim.
